This site is just great! I found my father's B-24 in the airplane photo section. His plane was the Ten Fighting Cock's and his name can be seen painted under the cockpit window...E.A.Ley! What a great surprise to see it here. I have been to two 450th reunions, one in Orlando with my mother, and one nine years ago in San Diego. They are so worth going to, so if anyone is considering going, I recommend by all means go! Anyone out there that flew my my father? Would love to hear from you.

Dear Cottontailers: It's with a sad heart that I tell of the passing of Sgt. Ernest J. Pellington - Engineer/Top Turret Gunner of the Captain John Paul Jones, Jr., crew. "Buck", as he was known, flew more than the required fifty missions. The ones above fifty, generally with the Group Commander, in the lead plane. He was good. A little anecdote to show the measure of the man: After crashing in a potato field near the RAF Spitfire Base at Capodichino, Italy, the B-24 was bent into a "J" shape. "Buck" was trapped on the catwalk, while desperately trying to lower the landing gear manually. With gasoline spurting from the ruptured fuel tanks, he begged for a .45 pistol to end it all in the event the B-24 caught fire. We all ignored the request. Luckily, we were able to extricate him by chopping a hole in the fuselage and prying the catwalk off his trapped legs. He will be missed, mostly by his wife Gladys, children and grandchildren. May his soul rest in peace. Crew mate Andy J. Benedict

Hello all! You site has provided valuable information for my family which I chalked up to being lost over the years. I thank you. My great uncle was Wesley Kozenka, navigator for the Bottoms Up, 721st Sqd. He was KIA on the 105th mission and I only recently discovered that his memorial lies in Italy. I am researching his life and would appreciate any contacts, photos, or MACR reports for the Bottoms Up final mission. In addition, I would like to see if any of his crew members relatives are out there and possibly exchange stories or research gathered. I thank you for your service both in the past and in the future. C. Corwin

- First this is an excellent site. - Second, What's the easiest way to provide additional information on my father (Stanley J. Correll) who is listed on your web site as a former POW. I have a picture of the B-24 he flew in and his discharge papers which identify battles and campaigns, Decorations and Citations, where he received training, and etc.. - Finally, do you have any ideas on how I can get more information on Stalag 4 and the death march? If possible, please respond via my e-mail address! Thanks, mark Correll Military Occupational Specialty - Radio Operator Mechanic

Does anybody know of the results of the crash landing of a B-24 piloted by Captain John Paul Jones, Jr.? It happened after a mission from Toulon, while attempting to cross the Appenines near Naples. Not enough altitude, two engines out, denied access to the RAF Field at Capodichino. Wing dropped, finito. Happened in August, 1944. Another crash landing of a B-24 on Vis, piloted by First Lieutenant Roger A. Kent. Both crashes of B-24s belonging to the 723SQ, 450BG out of Manduria. S/Ns of either plane unknown. Vis' plane's name was "No, No Nanette". Any information will be greatly appre-ciated. Thanks

I have an eye witness to the B-24 shootdown on early afternoon of March 5, 1945, near Sombathely, Hungary. He saw 6 or 7 parachutes. Hungarian soldiers captured several. Anyone still out there with knowledge of the incident from US side?

I recently had written about a finding the pilot of one of your unknown crew pictures. Located in the "unknown crew" section pictured in the top row extreme last picture to the right noted 05-723 is pilot Mr Harry Kellmann. He is standing and positioned dead center. As Mr Kellmann has been ill he is trying to remember and give me the names of his fellow crew members. Please verify this and let me know, as I didn't see his name on the crews roster. I have this very same picture that he gave to me. He told me he was with the 450th Bomber Group. 723rd squadron. Aloha Pat Aloha Pat

I was speaking to one of clients about his experiences he had while he was in WW2. He tolded me he had been a B24 bomber pilot in Europe. He told me what unit he had been in. And I checked this website. And as I scanned I couldn't find him. Until I checked in your unknown crew section and there he was with his crew. I will get the info. and send it to you so he can be identified properly and not be forgotten. please advise me how I get this info. to you. Aloha Pat P.S. Great website!!!!
