Comments Thank you for a really informative site. I was searching for Bari as my gt uncle Lieutenant- Commander John Edmund Grice Royal Navy (Retired)was given a medal for courage, leadership and devotion to duty in fire-fighting, rescue work and the salvage of valuable ships during and after a heavy raid on Bari. He was awarded the MBE. There were many other names in the list of awards for this action and although I found the report of all of these in the London Gazette of Friday 7th July 1944 your site explained what actually happened. John's family always said that he never recovered from the gas he inhaled there. I assumed that it was from fumes from burning deisel oils and would never have thought of mustard gas. No wonder Churchill kept it quiet. John was in command of HMS Trawler Ouse which was blown up at Tobruk leaving only a few survivors. He was in the water for several hours before being picked up seriously injured. However,John Edmnd Grice lived until 1957. He died at Haslar Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, UK at the age of 64.

Comments I have recently been reviewing my father's military experiences with him and by accident found this website while researching information for him. He is very thrilled about all of this wonderful information you have posted. His name is Philip Kraus- he was one of the three survivors of the Gallopin Ghost on Feb. 22.1944. He was badly burned, and spent time in a German POW hospital near Munich. He was sent back to the U.S. in 1945. He suffered greatly, but has been a great inspiration to all of his family. He is one of the most positive people in the world. I just wanted to let someone know that he is still alive and living near me, his daughter, in Dallas Texas. He is 88 yrs. old, and still loves aviation.

Comments Hello. My dad was Louis Scerra. He was a member of the Babbitt Crew, 722nd Sq. If my memory serves correctly, he was a gunner with/for the crew. Dad passed away in 1985 and sadly he never talked much about his war experience. I'm guessing that is not abnormal but I feel badly that I don't know much about that time in his life and can't share any information with all of you. Thank you for this website. I was so excited when I found the picture of the "crew" to which dad belonged. Thank you to all of you veteran's who served and protected so proudly. Thank you for doing your part to make my world better. Thank you for the freedom you fought so hard to gain for all of us.

Comments I regret to inform the members of the 450th that my father, Baptista J. Sartori Jr. passed on Jan 29th 2004. It is with happiness I know he is back with fellow airmen with whom he shared so much. Our world is that much of a lesser place with him gone. As so many of our heroes are going back home for the final time, it saddens me. We must never forget their sacrifices. When taps are being played during Dad's interment on Feb 3 2004, it will sound for all who have gone. Many never returned and those who did had to earn the right to have been spared. My Dad was a good man and he earned it. I will never forget what you guys have done. I sincerely thank all of you. My love and prayers are with you all. John B. Sartori Sr. (son) Baptista J. Sartori Jr. 15th AirForce; 450th Bomb Group; 722 Squadron; Waiste Gunner on "I'll Get By" Shot down June 26, 1944; POW StalagLuft IV and I. LEST WE FORGET
