My Dad, Herman Zowader, was visiting me and we pulled this up when we "googled" his name. He was amazed!! Thank you so much for creating this website. Is there any way you could email me a list of the members of the 722nd? Thanks, Ruth

Was surfing Google for lawn weed killer and spotted "450thBG". This is as far as I got on your website but soon will look at it all hoping to see if any of your bombing missions coincided with those of the 463rd BG, Foggia. I was a Bomdadier of the 775th Sq. Take a look at our Site too. There might something of interest from a bunch of guys and their B-17s. Harv

Phillip Kraus is my brother. His daughter recently discovered this site and let me know about it. We are thrilled that his story is being heard 60 years after the plane went down over Germany. He was severly burned and hospitalized for 8 months in Germany and repatriated to the US. He truly is a hero.

Hi Mike Stewart.... Check out my web site. I think your grandfather may have been talking about when the Bottoms Up ditched in Vis. My great uncle went down with the Bottoms Up in March of '45. No one survived. I sent you an e-mail regarding same. CC

My grandfather Arthur E. LeBlanc was one of the flight engineers on Bottoms Up. He indicated that he was on the plane when it was ditched in the ocean on its last mission??? He had said that by the time the plane was ditched there were no assigned crews they were just fill-ins.

Dear 450th BG Readers: I need your help in finding my Missing Records . . . I flew as the co-pilot on the Captain John Paul Jones, Jr. crew. After he was wounded, the crew was taken over by First Lieutenant Roger A. Kent. We were stationed in Manduria, Italy with the 450th BG, 723rd SQ. The Group was known as the “Cottontails.” When we were in Italy, we suffered two crashes. One happened at Capodichino, Italy (8-44) and the other on the Island of Vis, off the Dalmatian Coast (10-44). There is NO official record of the two mishaps. I would dearly love to find out the disposition of the two incidents. I am hoping that some member of the maintenance or a ground crew chief of the 723rd kept a log of the B-24s in his charge. Perhaps he noticed that his roster was missing a couple of planes after mission return. I know it's a long shot, but there is always that possibility. I don't know the S/Ns of either plane, but the name of the Vis B-24 was “No, No Nanette.” I have pictures of her sitting on her belly. Any personal information o

Don Papierniak's comments about the 60th anniversary of his brothers death on a mission to Steyr, Austria, was timely indeed. We too have been remembering that day as my father-in-law, Sam Artzer was killed on the same mission. Yesterday, the surviving co-pilot of that crew called us to talk to us about his strong memories of that day. He was not on that mission as he was ill at the time but he remembered the other guys leaving the room that morning. He said he can remember that as plain as day, even 60 years later. Their memories are with all of us and will continue to be so for years to come. What they gave us all is beyond belief! The price was high, may we never forget that.
