I just recived the sad news of the passing of Lou Samsa on July 5th. He lived in Fort Collins, Colorado. Lou was the pilot on "Round Trip Rosie" which was shot down on 2-23-44. He bailed out and spent the rest of the war as a POW. I had the pleasure to spend several days with Lou and his wife.He carried a terrible guilt with the loss of 8 of the crew. "Should have given the bail out order sooner". Lou was blown free of the plane and was able to deploy his chute. A man's man.

See photograph. Wm Van Der Moere was 1st lieutenant/pilot of a b-24 Liberator. Flew 50 missions in Europe , was sent home for R&R, waiting to get sent to the Pacific... and the war ended. His co-pilot had the last name of Greenberg... Sketchy info. at best, but with a little more digging in family archives and prodding of my mother's memory vaults, I could come up with more, no doubt. Married at age 19 to Flora Shepherd, until his death March 25, 1981. Born and raised in Indianopolis, Indiana. Attended college at Indiana Univ. to become a teacher of history. Received his BS Ed Degree, but did not folow that pursuit.. became sales and marketing guru of Ipsen Industries. Anyone with further information or interest in his crew, please email.

What a great site. My brother was a member of the 721st. Have enjoyed seeing pictures of the B-24 he worked on as an armorer and was the artist for BOTTOMS UP. He passed away in January of 1986 and had told me several stories of his missions when he flew as a waist gunner. His name was Walter Kacicek. If any members of the 450th 721st remember him , please e-mail me. Edward Kacicek at ekacicek@bellsouth,net

Missing Records (Continued) . . . the name of the Vis B-24 was “No, No Nanette.” I have pictures of her sitting on her belly. Any personal information of the plane and/or crew would be genuinely welcomed. Respectfully, Andy J. Benedict. ajbdad@aol.com

Many thanks to the Webmasters for all their efforts in keeping this site so interesting. I'd like a favor of your correspondents, namely: "Missing Records . . . I flew as the co-pilot on the Captain John Paul Jones, Jr. crew. After he was wounded, the crew was taken over by First Lieutenant Roger A. Kent. We were stationed in Manduria, Italy with the 450th BG, 723rd SQ. The Group was known as the “Cottontails.” When we were in Italy, we suffered two crashes. One happened at Capodichino, Italy (8-44) and the other on the Island of Vis, off the Dalmatian Coast (10-44). There is NO official record of the two mishaps. I would dearly love to find out the disposition of the two incidents. I am hoping that some member of the maintenance or a ground crew chief of the 723rd kept a log of the B-24s in his charge. Perhaps he noticed that his roster was missing a couple of planes after mission return. I know it's a long shot, but there is always that possibility. I don't know the S/Ns of either plane, but the name of the Vis B-24 was “No, N

I was very pleased to find such an extensive site devoted to the bombardment group that my grandfather, Joseph Ryan, was a part of. Unfortunately I was not able to find photos of his plane or crew. I would like to know how to send in photos and I was wondering if there is more detailed research that can be done to find more information about his plane and crew specifically. I recently inherited his medals and want to present them in a frame with photos or memorabilia. Thank you for preserving a very precious part of so many young soldier's lives.

I am the son of Raymond K Jennings. My brother and I are interested in finding any of the crew members that may still be around that knew our father. Also, I have an original of the photo of the Rum Buggy and the crew of the 722 squadron that I have scanned and can print a copy for anyone who might be interested. Our father passed away over 20 years ago and it is great to see him in the photo with his crew on this web site. Jon Jennings Salinas, CA 93908 831-455-1024

I was doing a search on the family name "stelte" and it turned up a link to a picture of my father, who was the pilot of a b-24 called "Settum Up". My father has been deceased for about 10 years, but I have his flight log with many pictures. Let me know if you are interested in posting any of this material.

I live in Massachusetts, as school project for my 5th grader and in the 60th anniversary of D-DAY - I am doing research on Ft. Devons. Your web site come up from a search, I am very moved by your listing and wanted to send a big THANK YOU for your service to your country during WWII. As time goes on, the younger generations really don't realize what WWII was all about and who the people were who served the US. God Bless you and you will always be remembered for the service you did so people today can live in freedom! Brian Noble
