Lt. Col. William "Bill" Kendall Haines Sr; passed away December 11th, 2011.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in September, 1942, at Keesler Field, Albama. He spent 18 months at Eagle Passe, Texas training as a Radio Engineer.
From 1943 to 1944 he was an Air Cadet Pilot. His new crew left Wala Wala, Washington August 1944. They flew together to Manduria, Italy.
He was co-pilot to Walter Kmen for his first 18 missions. He had originally received his wings as a fighter pilot. He then completed 51 missions and 34 sorties , before returning home as a 1st Lt. April, 1945.
He taught military flight at Bartow, Florida from 1951 to 1954 at Garner Aviation . He continued flying until 1990.
